Musical Theater is offered as an elective for students enrolled in 7th – 12th grades. This class is a mixture of both choir and musical theater. Students will study the work of the actor and singer and use their gained knowledge to develop as performers. Students will prepare and present as soloists as well as members of small groups and larger ensembles. Since this is also a music course, students will study music theory as well as learn how to read music. In addition, students will evaluate theatrical performances, prepare audition material and perform on stage in front of various audiences.
Our Junior High and High School students have the opportunity to engage in interactive learning throughout the year in our Musical Theater classes. They learn the elements of music theory as well as the structure and framework of theater through various activities and lessons. They produce a musical every spring and have the opportunity to sing, dance, act and be a member of the stage crew. During the last nine week period, all students are actively involved in creating a 3 part project based on a musical of their choice.
Our elementary music students engage in various lessons and activities including music theory, music history and composers, and composing music. They learn elements of music theory through a system called Note Knacks. They also participate in several performances throughout the year including the Veteran’s Day program, Christmas program and Spring program.
