Southcrest Christian School will be closed starting March 23, 2020 through April 3, 2020 to support our community and health care professionals in the ongoing goal of containing the spread of the virus, COVID-19. Additionally, all extracurricular activities, practices and athletic events are suspended while we are closed. We are using the week of March 23rd. – March 27th to train our teachers and get ready to offer school online for the days we are unable to meet with our students in person. March 30th through April 3rd we will be presenting online lessons for our students to remain on target with their learning goals. If this pandemic requires that we be out longer than our original plan, we will be prepared to continue quality learning opportunities for all our students. Teachers will be working and Southcrest Christian School will continue progressing students forward with their learning needs.
We do not make this decision lightly. We fully realize it presents significant difficulties to working parents. However, we are hopeful that these measures will better ensure the long-term health and safety of children, staff, and the larger community. We are also hopeful that as these measures take place, our community will become safer and better able to handle the effects of this Coronavirus pandemic.
More information and guidance will be made available on our website by tomorrow. We will also take this week to further clean schools and restock custodial and nursing supplies. Please note you will receive information about how to come pick up needed school supplies. We are also sending you a survey to find out who will need help with technology at home.
Please access and remember the guidelines that are being offered on the CDC websites and will be included on our website as well:
Finally, as mentioned previously, I want to encourage you that, with God’s help, we will successfully meet this unprecedented challenge. The Association of Christian Schools International has adopted the tagline, “Stronger Together” to communicate the impact of believers uniting for a common cause. SCS has the hashtag, #SouthcrestStrong and we have seen that over and over. Let’s make that our call for unity as well. And let us remember the words of the Apostle Paul in his second letter to Timothy, “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7). God is still on His throne and directing His universe.
This is a quickly changing situation, and we will continue to monitor information, will assess conditions, and will provide updates regularly via our website and email. Thank you for your support and cooperation as we ensure that all members of the community of Southcrest Christian School stay safe and healthy. We are praying for you all and our teachers, administrators and staff love our students and families. May God bless and protect every one of you!
Please join me in prayer for all those affected by the pandemic and may His name be glorified and His purposes revealed:
Jesus, during Your ministry on Earth You showed Your power and caring by healing people of all ages and stations of life from physical, mental, and spiritual ailments. Be present now to people who need Your loving touch because of COVID-19. May they feel Your power of healing through the care of doctors and nurses.
Take away the fear, anxiety, and feelings of isolation from people receiving treatment or under quarantine. Give them a sense of purpose in pursuing health and protecting others from exposure to the disease. Protect their families and friends and bring peace to all who love them.
Dear Lord, we lift to You our concern for people who are more likely than others to become severely ill — the elderly and people with chronic health conditions. Protect them from harm and be their comfort in this time of uncertainty.
Father, we seek Your wisdom daily. Be with people making decisions that affect the lives and futures of our families, communities, countries, and the wider world. Inspire and invigorate people developing better tests to diagnose the virus, vaccines to prevent it, and protocols and communication to eliminate the disease’s spread. May truth and empathy be the touchstones of people setting policies for our protection.
We especially lift up our students and families at Southcrest Christian School. Please protect and be with them. Give them creative solutions to dealing with this new situation. For those parents who both work we ask you to provide care of their young children. Thank you for loving us, caring for us and meeting our needs. You are our source and we give you glory!
He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On Him, we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us …—2 Corinthians 1:10-11 (NIV)
In His Service,
Southcrest Christian School
Southcrest Christian School is monitoring Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation carefully and is taking proactive and prudent measures to ensure the health and safety of the SCS community in accordance with the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We will update you, as new details become available or information changes. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we attempt to navigate the uncharted waters caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the most difficult challenges we face is making decisions when the parameters are constantly changing, sometimes on an hourly basis. Therefore, your continued patience during these challenging times is greatly appreciated. We will be diligently working as a leadership team as new information is given to us and will be applying it as is necessary for the health and safety of our students and staff.
At this time we are planning to return as normal following spring break. External conditions will determine whether or not we reconvene in-person classes or begin Distance Learning. We just cannot predict where we will be as a region, state, or country next week. We are planning as if Distance Learning will be our strategy for the foreseeable future. All on and off campus events, athletic contests, practices, rehearsals, fine arts performances, and field trips are suspended until further notice.
